CNN —The Atlanta Falcons surprised the NFL world on Thursday, selecting quarterback Michael Penix Jr. with the No. They also expressed their excitement in having someone to help them win right now in the former Minnesota Vikings QB, while also being able to build for the future with Penix Jr. Morris said that Cousins’ reaction when he was informed that the team would be selecting Penix Jr. would remain private. The Falcons are hoping a similar tactic works for them, now that Cousins and Penix Jr. are at the franchise. Penix Jr. performs in the 2024 NFL Combine.

The Browns still have a shot to get more value out of their trade that sent three first-round picks and three lower picks to Houston for Deshaun Watson. Here's a look at some of the worst trades in the NFL over the years:HERSCHEL WALKER TO MINNESOTAPhotos You Should See View All 60 ImagesThe Cowboys launched their dynasty in the 1990s when Jimmy Johnson realized the high value of draft picks and turned Herschel Walker into a huge haul of them. The trades helped Dallas acquire draft picks that led to Emmitt Smith, Darren Woodson, Russell Maryland and Kevin Smith, who contributed to three Super Bowl titles. That led the Falcons to cut ties quickly, trading him after the season to Green Bay for a first-round pick. But the Seahawks were able to turn him into a first-round pick from quarterback-starved Chicago in 1997.

CNN —As a 23-year fantasy football veteran, lifelong Green Bay Packers fan Bill Port knows his way around an NFL roster. Which is why when the Packers’ defensive coordinator job opened up recently, Port decided he should apply for the position. It was something like: ‘I heard your organization has a job opening and I figured I’d try this defensive coordinator thing. He was healthy enough to start a throwing program in late May, resumed practice early in training camp and delivered one of the most prolific seasons ever by a San Francisco quarterback. It will be easy to watch the Super Bowl, but many NFL games are out of fans' reach. But for many NFL fans, particularly those who live in a different state than the team they root for, watching football is rarely so easy. YouTube TV also provided access to a few Sunday afternoon Packers games on Fox. But several Packers games fell outside the NFL's regional coverage map , often leaving me with no choice but to watch Daniel Jones and the New York Giants. Yes, I had access to NFL Redzone through YouTube TV, but that just provided me with occasional peeks at the game I was missing.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — For all that went well in Jordan Love's first season as the starting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, the end proved disappointing. He helped the Packers (10-9) overcome a 2-5 start to the season to make the playoffs. He followed that up with a three-touchdown performance in a wild-card win at Dallas last week and had Green Bay in position to knock off the top-seeded 49ers. They made a great play.”Love proved plenty this season and gives the Packers confidence that he can be a worthy successor to Brett Favre and Rodgers. After spending his first three seasons as Rodgers' backup, Love threw for 4,159 yards and 32 touchdowns this season thanks to his strong second half of the campaign.

“I do not believe at all that he’s divisive in the Jets locker room and within their own building. While on the field he’s on a Hall of Fame trajectory, some of Rodgers’ behavior away from the sport shows a different side to the man. As Rodgers ran onto the field, carrying an American flag and with AC/DC’s ‘Thunderstruck’ booming out, Jets fans went wild. Rodgers’ arrival in New York during the offseason had looked like a masterstroke, on and off the field for the Jets franchise. But after missing out on nearly the whole season through injury, Rodgers’ season-ending media conference last week ended with him stressing winning.

Kyle Juszczyk remembers the different feel when he took the field for the first time in the playoff rivalry between his San Francisco 49ers and the Green Bay Packers. That rivalry of San Francisco and Green Bay is always a big one. Favre followed with two quick touchdown passes as Green Bay rolled to a 27-17 win. Green Bay won the first playoff matchup 23-10 against Mariucci the following year as the frustration mounted in San Francisco. Kaepernick braved the cold of Green Bay the following year and played without long sleeves or gloves.

Mike McCarthy will get another chance to end a nearly three-decade stretch without a deep playoff run for the Dallas Cowboys. Owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Wednesday night McCarthy will be back for a fifth season as coach after a stunning 48-32 wild-card loss to Green Bay. Dallas surged to the NFC East title in the final two weeks and had a chance for multiple home playoff games. “There is great benefit to continuing the team’s progress under Mike’s leadership as our head coach,” Jones said in a statement with several references to the disappointment of the playoff loss. Jones' statement made no mention of an extension.

The Cowboys lost on their home turf where they had been undefeated all season. Photo: tim heitman/ReutersThe Dallas Cowboys strutted into the playoff this year with the NFL’s top offense and a prime opportunity to end the team’s 28-year Super Bowl drought. The seventh-seeded Green Bay Packers routed the No. 2 Cowboys 48-32 at AT&T Stadium, and what was even more stunning than the Packers knocking off Dallas in the opening round is how easily they did it. Green Bay shredded the vaunted Dallas defense, bottled up its potent offense—and did it all on the Cowboys’ home turf, where the Cowboys were undefeated all season.

Dak Prescott threw two interceptions before three mostly empty touchdown passes in another playoff flop for him and the No. These Packers, with the four-time MVP's successor, left little doubt with a 48-16 fourth-quarter lead before two late Dallas TDs. Facing the NFL's fifth-best defense, Green Bay matched its Super Bowl-winning team from 2010 for the most points in a playoff game. Jones rushed for 118 yards, putting him over the century mark in all four career games against the Cowboys with nine touchdowns. Prescott finished 41 of 60 for 403 yards, with all three of his touchdowns to tight end Jake Ferguson.

Stroud became the youngest quarterback to win a playoff game after throwing for 274 yards and three touchdowns, and the Houston Texans returned two interceptions by Joe Flacco for scores in a 45-14 rout of the Cleveland Browns in a wild-card matchup Saturday. Stroud, the second overall pick in the draft last April, is also the highest-drafted rookie QB to win in the postseason. Stroud threw for 236 yards and three touchdowns before halftime as the Texans built a 24-14 lead. With the Texans up 45-14 with nine minutes to go, Stroud’s work was done, and he was replaced by Davis Mills. Two plays later, Stroud connected on a short pass with Collins for a 15-yard score to put the Texans on top 10-7.
